Man held for trader’s murder in Prayagraj’s Daraganj
The trader was shot dead early on Saturday morning near his shop located close to Ganga Murti trisection
The Daraganj police claimed to have cracked the murder of vegetable trader, Shyamji Kesarwani, with the arrest of a man who allegedly confessed to the crime, on Wednesday.

Kesarwani was shot dead early on Saturday morning near his shop located close to Ganga Murti trisection. The man killed Kesarwani over a monetary dispute and the suspicion of having an illicit affair with his wife. The country-made firearm used in the murder has been recovered from the accused, police said.
DCP town Santosh Kumar Meena said after investigations, Daraganj police under SHO Virendra Kumar Mishra rounded up one Atul Kumar Nishad of Meera Gali in Daraganj. During interrogation, Atul confessed to his crime, he said.
He told the police that he and Kesarwani were partners in the vegetable business. Kesarwani encouraged him to purchase a pick-up van on loan and promised to help in payment of EMI every month. However, Kesarwani failed to keep his promise and refused to help in payments of installments.
Nishad was suffering from an extreme financial crisis and even did not have money to buy food for his family. He held Kesarwani responsible for his condition and suspected that he was in an illicit affair with his wife as he frequently visited his house, police said.
On December 31, Nishad shot at Kesarwani in the head from close range which resulted in his death on the spot.
