Regularisation of employees: Ludhiana MC House to take call on upper age limit at next meeting

A resolution regarding extending upper age limit for regularisation of 3,542 contractual sweepers and sewermen of Ludhiana MC will be tabled at the next House meeting of the civic body, the date for which is yet to be finalised.

Ludhiana MC employees’ unions have been mounting pressure on the state government and the civic body, stating that if the age limit is not extended, many employees who have been working with MC for over a decade will miss their chance of regularisation. (HT FILE)

The decision was taken at a meeting held between MLAs Gurpreet Gogi, Madan Lal Bagga, Kulwant Sidhu, Rajinder Pal Kaur Chhina and Ashok Prashar Pappi; mayor Balkar Sandhu and MC commissioner Shena Aggarwal on Wednesday.

The MC general house had recently approved a resolution to regularise the 3,542 contractual sweepers and sewermen. However, uncertainty prevails over regularisation of around 1,000 of them who have crossed the upper age limit for regularisation. The age limit is 37 for general category and 42 for SC category.

MC employees’ unions have been mounting pressure on the state government and the civic body, stating that if the age limit is not extended, many employees who have been working with MC for over a decade will miss their chance of regularisation.

Aggarwal stated that after the resolution is approved by MC House, it will be forwarded to the state government.
