Cabinet announces recruitment of 75,543 policemen

PATNA: In its pursuit to provide 1 million jobs in the state, the Bihar cabinet on Tuesday decided to create 75,543 posts for policemen under different categories, besides approving 13 agendas.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar during the closing ceremony of Police Week on February 27, 2022, had said that the state government was aiming at increasing the number of policemen in the state from 165 to 170 per one lakh population. (PTI)

Briefing media persons about the decisions, additional chief secretary S Siddharth said that the cabinet has approved the creation of 7,808 posts for the first phase of Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) Dial 112, of police cadre and non-police cadre.

The state government, in order to strengthen the police force and increase its strength to meet the requirements of a growing population, has decided direct appointment police to 48,447 posts. “The cabinet has also sanctioned 19,288 posts under ERSS phase 2 recruitment,” said the additional chief secretary.

It is worth mentioning that the sanctioned strength of policemen per lakh persons in India is 195.39 while the actual number is 155.78. At the same time, Bihar still has only 100 policemen per one lakh population.
