The clash, involving stone pelting, took place at Karpoori Chowk under Balia police station limits. Police had to resort to lathi charge to control the mob. The injured were rushed to nearby primary health centre for treatment.

Superintendent of police Yogendra Kumar said that the clash took place near Machhli Bazar Upar Tola when people of a neighbouring village were on their way to immerse the idol after the conclusion of the nine-day Durga Puja. “Additional police force was rushed to the spot and the situation was brought under control. Six persons have been detained and are being questioned.”
