Police arrest one for rape and murder of minorcities Updated: Jun 02, 2017 23:38 IST
Noida: Police have arrested 23-year-old Yashveer Kumar for the alleged rape and murder of a 15-year-old Sarfabad resident.
According to the police, Kumar, hailing from Razapur village in Hapur, had allegedly abducted a minor from Sarfabad in Sector 73 on the pretext of eloping with her. Kumar was staying in Ghaziabad back then and working as a boring well worker in Sarfabad village.
“Kumar had lured the victim a few months ago and also gifted her a mobile phone. When the victim’s mother found out about the phone, she asked her to return it to Kumar. On April 27, the girl went to meet Kumar to return the phone and to end ties with him. But she never returned,” said Ajay Kumar Singh, station house officer.
On April 28, the victim’s mother lodged a missing complaint on when her daughter did not return.
Police said Kumar took the victim to his rented residence in Ghaziabad for the next four days.
However, on May 1, he decided to take her to his native village in Hapur.
“On May 2, he had a confrontation with the victim, after which he choked her to death using a stole (dupatta). He then dumped her body in a canal near his village,” said Singh.
After the Hapur police found the body of an unknown girl, Noida police started coordinating with them with respect to the missing complaint filed by victim’s mother.
“We then tracked Kumar’s phone details and found that the victim and used to talk to him at least 14-15 times a day. That was our lead and we held Kumar for interrogation,” said Singh.
Police said during questioning he confessed to have killed the minor girl during a fight in Hapur.
“A case of murder and rape has been lodged against him and he has been sent to jail after being produced before the magistrate,” said Singh.
