Bullets were allegedly fired outside courtroom at the lobby in Wai of Satara district on Monday, officials said.
The shooting incident left one policeman injured and a case was filed against 15 suspects.
Officials said the gunshots were fired by one of the absconding accused, booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), who was present at the court.
“Immediately after firing bullets, the police on the spot arrested the accused identified as Rajesh Navghane with firearms in his possession,” said Sameer Shaikh, superintendent of police (SP), Satara.
The gunfire took within the confines of Wai court, targeting notorious gangster Aniket, also known as Bunty Narayan Jadhav, a resident of Bhuinj; and Nikhil and Abhijeet Shivaji More, residents of Gangapuri in Wai. When the trio was brought from Kolhapur’s Kalamba Central Jail and produced in the courtroom in connection with an extortion case, Navghane opened fire on them at the lobby, according to the police officials.
