Pune: The state unit of Forum for IT Employees (FITE) on Monday held a meeting to discuss arrangements for its planned peaceful agitation in Hinjewadi on September 6 over the poor state of basic infrastructure in the IT hub.
FITE state president Pavanjit Mane said members had been asked to reach out to employees working in around 250 IT firms and residents of nearly 80 housing societies in Hinjewadi to mobilise participation in the protest.
The organisation will hold a protest march from phase I of the IT Park to Hinjewadi Chowk to highlight issues including pothole-ridden roads, traffic congestion, inadequate drainage, lack of bus shelters and poorly integrated traffic signals.
“The problems in Hinjewadi are as serious as those in the Chakan industrial area. The six main roads connecting the IT Park and residential societies are riddled with potholes, while employees spend hours commuting during peak hours because of traffic jams. Authorities have been assuring us that four to five new roads would be constructed, but nothing has happened so far,” Mane said.
He said IT companies based in Hinjewadi generate around ₹5,000 crore in annual revenue.
“There is growing resentment among IT employees over the delay in starting metro services, despite the work being largely complete. Starting the service would provide major relief to employees as well as residents,” he said.
