New land at Purandar suitable for Pune international airport
Pune’s newly proposed international airport project at Purandar taluka is on hold for the last six to seven years with many attributing the reason for its wrong location
A study conducted by retired Indian Air Force officers has revealed that the new location proposed by the government for international airport in Purandar taluka is economically, geographically and technologically good and suitable considering the next 150 years, said Purandar MLA Sanjay Jagtap during the budget session of the state assembly.
Pune’s newly proposed international airport project at Purandar taluka is on hold for the last six to seven years with many attributing the reason for its wrong location.
Jagtap asked the government to expedite the international airport project. He said that the airport location study submitted to the government was carried out by Air Marshal Bhushan Gokhale (retired), Air Traffic Controller Shri Joshi and Sarang Lokhande of Rafale.
“The second location is economically, geographically and technically better than the first. Also, the project will help development in the area and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) should make provision for construction of a logistics park near the airport,” said Jagtap.
The legislator also asked the government to include the 15 villages merged with the Haveli Municipal Corporation under the Amrut drinking water scheme of Maharashtra Life Authority. “These villages are deprived of basic facilities like water, drainage, roads and electricity since included in the municipal limits two and a half years ago,” he said.
Jagtap said the development of Purandar-Haveli areas should be carried out in a planned and time-bound manner by PMRDA after inviting suggestions from residents, public representatives and local self-government bodies.
