PMC data shows most Covid hospitalisations in 40+ age group

Most Covid-19 patients who are admitted to hospitals in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits are above the age of 40 years and with co-morbidities, said officials. Even though the maximum number of patients who have tested post for Covid-19 in the PMC limits are from the 31 to 40 age group.

Out of 2,064 active patients in PMC limits, 74 patients are between the age group of zero to 10 years of age. And 228 patients are from the age group of 11 to 20 years of age. Patients in the group of 41 to 50 years of age are 343 and 344 patients are from the age group of 21 to 30 years.
Dr Sanjeev Wavare, assistant health chief at the health department of the PMC, said that many patients are asymptomatic or with mild symptoms.
“Many patients who need hospital admissions are from the age group of 40 years and above. There are over 2,064 active patients in the city limits as of now. Between the age of 31 and 40 years there are 552 patients,” said Dr Wavare.
He added that out of the total 704 patients admitted to the hospital in PMC have received both doses. And 11 patients who have received at least a dose of the vaccine.
“There are 1,076 women patients who have tested positive and 988 male patients who have tested positive so far,” said Dr Wavare.
He further added that PMC is carrying out at least 1,500 tests a day and testing centres are also increasing within the city limits.
On Monday, 369 new Covid cases were detected in the state and five deaths. In Pune district, 336 new Covid cases were reported.
According to the state health department, 54 patients have tested positive for BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants. Out of these 54 cases, 15 are from Pune, 33 from Mumbai, 4 from Nagpur and 2 from Thane.
