Six arrested for kidnapping cab driver from Sangli over previous financial dispute
Six persons have been arrested in Pune for the kidnapping of a cab driver. The victim was associated with an online cab aggregator and had allegedly misplaced ornaments worth ₹25 lakh.
The Pune city crime branch officials on Monday arrested six persons for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of a cab driver from the Kondhwe-Dhawade area of Pune city, said officials.
Accused have been identified as Akshay Mohan Kadam 28, Sushant Madhukar Nalawade 26, Mahesh Malik Nalawade 26, Bokya alias Ranjit Dinkar Bhosale 26, Pradip Kisan Chavan 26, and Amol Uttam More 32, all residents of Sangli district.
The victim, a cab driver Vaibhav Shrikrishna Jadhav 27, resident of Kondhawe-Dhawade was kidnapped on August 4 and a case was registered at Uttam Nagar police station on August 5.
Upon receiving the complaint, the Uttam Nagar police and crime branch teams-initiated a joint operation. Both teams meticulously analysed the available evidence, including the phone records of the victim and potential suspects, along with CCTV footage from various locations. This concerted effort enabled the police to identify the culprits and their location in Sangli district.
On August 6, the teams reached Tasgaon, Sangli district and arrested accused. On Monday morning accused were brought to Pune and handed over to Uttam Nagar police.
According to police officials, the victim was a cab driver associated with an online cab aggregator company. Earlier in 2020, the victim was working with accused Kadam who was operated a gold jewellery store in Delhi. During that time, the accused alleged that the victim misplaced ornaments worth ₹25 lakh and asked him to pay.
Ajay Waghmare , Senior police inspector at Crime Branch Unit 1 said, “Accused was constantly asking the victim to pay ₹25 lakh but he failed to do so, hence Kadam along with his friends hatched plan to kidnap the victim.’’
A case was registered at Uttam Nagar police station by victim’s wife Poonam Vaibhav Jadhav on August 5 under sections of 342, 352, 365, 323, 504, 506, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
