SPPU senate elections: Voting for college principals held on Sunday

Voting was held on Sunday for the five seats under the open category for which nine contestants are in the race

Voting for the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) senate elections in the college principals’ category was held on Sunday at three voting centres across Pune, Nashik and Ahmednagar districts. There was a total 95% voting by registered voters while counting will now be carried out and election results will be declared on Tuesday, November 29. Out of the 10 posts under the principal senate members’ category, five members under the reserved category won unopposed while voting was held on Sunday for the five seats under the open category for which nine contestants are in the race.

As per the information shared by the SPPU administration, voting was held on Sunday between 10 am and 5 pm at three centres in the Pune, Nashik and Ahmednagar districts. Voting was held for 172 out of the total 180 seats in Pune district; 73 out of the total 75 seats in Nashik district; and 39 out of the total 43 seats in Ahmednagar district. Overall, voting was held for 284 out of the total 298 seats, with a total voting percentage of 95%.

Earlier last week, voting was held for the SPPU senate elections in the graduate senate members’ category wherein the Vidyapeeth Vikas Manch (VVM) panel won nine seats whereas the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) panel supported by the Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won one seat. In the scheduled castes (SCs) category, Rahul Shivaji Pakhare won by 13,512 votes; in the scheduled tribes (STs) category, Ganpat Popat Nangare won by 13,995 votes; in the nomadic tribes (NTs) category, Vijay Nivrutti Sonawane won by 14,101 votes; in the other backward classes (OBCs) category, Sachin Shivaji Gorde won by 13,342 votes; in the reserved for women category, Bhagyashree Milind Manthalkar won by 1,5649 votes; whereas in the open category, Prasenjit Fadnavis, Sagar Vaidya, Yuvraj Narawade, and Dadabhau Shiwalkar (all four from the VVM panel) and Bakerao Baste from the MVA panel won the elections.
