The weekly Covid positivity rate in Maharashtra has further reduced from 1.15% to 0.89% according to the latest reports by state health department. While most areas have seen dip in cases, the weekly positivity rates in Akola, Pune, Kolhapur, Jalna and Sangli districts are more than 2%, said officials.

On Tuesday, 67 new Covid cases were reported in the state while there were no fatalities across Maharashtra.
Dr Pradeep Awate, state surveillance officer, state health department said that on reviewing data from the last two weeks, officials have noticed weekly Covid cases have reduced.
“Between November 7 to November 13 and November 14 to November 20, the weekly new cases of Covid-19 have reduced by 25.46 per cent, that is from 1,037 to 773. There were three deaths due to Covid-19 last week. That also means that the weekly case fatality rate is at 0.39 per cent. Weekly positivity for Maharashtra has reduced from 1.15% to 0.89%. However, weekly positivity in Akola, Pune, Kolhapur, Jalna and Sangli districts are more than 2%,” said Dr Awate.
He added that there is a decrease in hospitalisation as well as Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admissions.
“A steady decrease is seen in the number of patients being hospitalised and needing ICU care. Out of the total new cases in the week, 1.55% have been admitted in ICUs. Until now, 134 patients of the XBB variant have been found,” said Dr Awate.
Health department officials noted that 72 patients were from Mumbai, 46 from Pune and eight from Thane. There are two patients each from Nagpur and Bhandara. And one patient each was tested positive for the variant from Akola, Amaravati, Raigad and Kolhapur.
“The severity of the disease as well as the speed of transmission have not increased in these areas,” said Dr Awate.
