Pimpri-Chinchwad mayor Ravi Landge on Friday directed officials to expand the intensive care unit (ICU) capacity at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH) by operationalising the hospital’s seventh floor, which can accommodate over 100 additional ICU beds, officials said.

The hospital, run by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), has 109 ICU beds, including 48 adult, 25 neonatal ICU (NICU), six paediatric and 30 operated by a private player under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The mayor directed officials to prepare a proposal to develop a multispeciality hospital on a vacant one-acre plot within the YCMH premises. He inspected the emergency department, ICUs, general and speciality wards, operation theatres, laboratory, radiology unit and other key sections and interacted with staff besides issuing instructions to improve hygiene and sanitation across the hospital. Landge also met patients and their relatives to seek feedback on treatment and services.
A senior doctor from YCMH, requesting anonymity, said the ICU capacity can be increased in phases. “The initial cost is estimated at around ₹50 crore, with an annual recurring expenditure of nearly ₹2 crore,” he said.
