Finch’s unbeaten 114-run stance off 64 balls also revived the possibility of Surrey’s progression to the knockout stages. In doing so, he also equalled the club’s record of seven sixes in a T20 innings held by Mark Ramprakash.
Surrey won the toss and opted to bat with Jason Ray and Finch opening for the county club. They went on to establish a 134-run partnership in 95 balls with both scoring half-centuries.
Sussex fought back to restrict their opponents until Finch took matters into his own hands. He cleared the boundary in four successive deliveries in the 18th over. Two of those came over mid-wicket and two over long-off. His onslaught on David Wiese ended with four off the last delivery taking the total to 30 runs that over.
His century came a few deliveries after with his 114-run knock guiding Surrey to 193; a target that granted them a 17-run victory over Sussex, who were held to 176/7.
