Chamara Kapugedera, Sri Lanka cricketer, was injured badly during the third ODI against Pakistan at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi after being accidentally hit by a ball.

During the 10th over of Pakistan’s innings, Niroshan Dickwella threw the ball towards Kapugedera but he had no idea that the ball was coming towards him.

Unfortunately, he got hit under his right eye and was taken to the hospital. Kapugedera didn’t return to the field for the remainder of the game.

“Chamara is under observation. There is no fracture thankfully, but there is a massive swelling on his face,” Sri Lanka’s Manager Asanka Gurusinha had said to Cricbuzz on Thursday (October 19).

Kapugedera missed the Sharjah ODI but is expected to play the last game of the series on Monday.

Sri Lanka are trailing the five-match series against Pakistan 4-0.

Riding on Hasan Ali and Shadab Khan’s splendid spells, Pakistan thrashed Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the fourth ODI in Sharjah.

Hasan took 3-37 while spinners Shadab Khan (2-29) and Imad Wasim (2-13) also chipped in with useful wickets as Sri Lanka were skittled out for 173 in 43.4 overs.

In reply, the visitors took three quick wickets but Babar Azam and Shoaib Malik played sensibly to guide Pakistan home with 11 overs to spare.

This was Pakistan’s eighth consecutive win which also included their Champions Trophy triumph in England in June while Sri Lanka succumbed to their 11th consecutive ODI defeat.
