As it happened: Chennai Super Kings’ bowlers dismissed Delhi Capitals for just 99 to claim an 80-run win. Imran Tahir scalped four wickets while Ravindra Jadeja starred with a three-wicket haul. This after Chennai Super Kings finished at 179/4 in 20 overs courtesy of a fine half-century from Suresh Raina (59) and late cameo from MS Dhoni (44*).
Follow CSK vs DC highlights below -
Imran Tahir claims the last wicket of the night and also his fourth as CSK win by 80 runs. The DC batting line-up completely imploded and they were dismissed for 99 in 16.2 overs. Imran Tahir (4/12) and Ravindra Jadeja (3/9) were the stars for CSK.
Chennai have picked their second wicket of the night after a mix-up between Mishra and Suchith cost the latter his wicket. Shane Watson effected a direct hit from the point region to get rid of the tail-ender. Delhi are nine down now.
Delaying the inevitable
Amit Mishra and Jagadeesha Suchith are somehow keeping themselves alive in the middle. Three runs came from that over from Tahir as DC are keeping the match going.
CSK edge closer
Dwayne Bravo bowls a good over and gives away just three runs as CSK are edging closer to an emphatic win. Tail-enders Amit Mishra and Jagadeesha Suchith are putting on a brave face for Delhi.
Delhi’s collapse: DC have lost 6 wickets in the space of 34 balls scoring just 22 runs. DC were 62/2 in the 7th over. They are now 85/8 after 12 overs.
Two stumpings for Dhoni in one over
MS Dhoni has gotten rid of both Chris Morris and Shreyas Iyer in over as he effects quick stumpings to send both back into the hut. Morris was the first to depart and one ball later Iyer got a taste of the same medicine. Delhi are eight down now and staring down the barrel.
Two in one over for Tahir
After scalping the wicket of Axar Patel, Imran Tahir removes Sherfane Rutherford too in the 11th over of the innings. The southpaw hits the ball into the hands of Deepak Chahar at point. Delhi are six down now.
Imran Tahir has picked his second wicket of the night as he gets rid of Axar Patel for 9. The southpaw edges the ball into the hands of Shane Watson who fielding at first slip. Delhi have lost half their side now.
CSK after 9 overs were 50/1 while DC are 75/4. The reason why DC are on the back foot is because they lost wickets in a heap. Shreyas Iyer is batting in his 40s and is holding the innings from one end. He need someone to stay with him.
Axar on the front foot
Southpaw Axar Patel makes his intentions clear early in the innings and hits a boundary off Dwayne Bravo, who concedes 8 runs in the over. Delhi need more of such hits as they are on the back foot at the moment.
Ingram heads back into hut
Ravindra Jadeja joins in the party now as he gets rid of Colin Ingram for 1. The southpaw misses the line of a delivery and it crashes into his pads. The batsmen went for DRS are the umpire gave it out. Replays showed that the ball was hitting the top of the stumps and the umpire’s call was retained. Delhi are four down now.
Pant throw his wicket
Rishabh Pant (5) throws his wicket again as he hits an Imran Tahir delivery straight into the hands of Dwayne Bravo at long off. The southpaw had hit a boundary the previous delivery in the same region but manages to find fielder on this occasion. Delhi are three down now and in a spot of bother.
In trying to sweep Harbhajan, Dhawan (19) gets himself castled comprehensively after missing the line of the delivery. Harbjajan strikes at the right time as Dhawan and Iyer were scoring runs at a brisk pace. Delhi are two down now.
Iyer on fire
Shreyas Iyer now takes the attack to Deepak Chahar and hits him for a huge six over long-off. Then, he hits a boundary towards third man to make it 15 off the over. DC are going at a rate of knots at the moment with these two in fine touch.
Six and four
Shikhar Dhawan joins his hitting prowess as he hits a huge six off Harbhajan Singh in the fourth over. The ball flies over long-on ropes. Then, he hits the ball past the cover fielder for a boundary as Bhajji concedes 13 runs in the over.
Iyer on the attack
Since coming on the field after Shaw’s dismissal, skipper Shreyas Iyer has looked good and he has already slammed couple of boundaries. Chahar goes for 9 runs in the over as DC are looking to get over Shaw’s dismissal early.
Tidy over from Bhajji
Harbhajan Singh bowls a tidy over as he gives away just 4 runs in the second over. CSK have made a flying start as they have got an early breakthrough and they are putting pressure on the batsmen by not giving them free runs.
Shaw departs early
Prithvi Shaw departs after scoring a boundary in the first over of the innings. He cuts the ball into the hands of Suresh Raina at point. Delhi lose their first wicket as Chahar strikes early. Shaw departs for 4. Suresh Raina has also completed his 100th IPL catch, the first cricketer to do so.
Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan are out in the middle and they will begin the DC chase. Deepak Chahar has the new ball in his hands and he will bowl the first over of the innings for CSK.
Dhoni finishes off in style
MS Dhoni once again shows his hitting prowess and takes CSK to 179/4 in 20 overs. After Morris went for 18 in the 19th over, Boult goes for 21 off the last. He started with a boundary off the third ball and then hit couple of sixes off the last two deliveries. Dhoni ends at at 44 off 22 deliveries and it included 4 boundaries and three sixes.
No ball and six
After picking up the wicket of Jadeja, Morris simply loses it as he bowls beamer and Dhoni pulls it for a six. The umpire says no ball and Morris apologises to Dhoni as well. 18 runs off the over from Morris as CSK have flown past 150 now.
Ravindra Jadeja’s cameo comes to an end as he is caught and bowled by Chris Morris. The bowler produced a top-edge of Jadeja’s bat and ran full length himself towards mid wicket to complete the catch as there was no fielder there. Jadeja falls for 25 off 10 deliveries.
Expensive over from Morris
Chris Morris is still leaking runs, something that he did in his first spell. Dhoni and Jadeja both hit one boundary each off the 16th over as Morris goes for 10 runs. The two CSK batsmen will now look to score as many runs as possible in the last three of overs. They would want to cross the 150-run mark atleast.
Rutherford drops easy chance
Delhi should have picked their fourth wicket of the night but Rutherford sends a catch from Jadeja over the boundary ropes. He had reached the ball in time to catch it comfortably but made a mess of it. To add insult to injury, the next delivery from Axar goes for a boundary over the keeper’s head. 14 runs came from the over but 10 runs were lucky breaks for CSK.
In trying to up the ante further, Suresh Raina is dismissed by jagadeesha Suchith for 59. Two balls ago, he had survived after Trent Boult failed to take a half-chance at long-on, which went for six. But this time, Shikhar Dhawan took a good catch, running backward, to dismiss the southpaw.
Fifty for Raina
Suresh Raina hits couple off boundaries off jagadeesha Suchith and with that, he completes his half-century off 34 deliveries. This Raina’s 37th IPL fifty and he is leading CSK’s charge after du Plessis’ dismissal.
du Plessis departs
In trying to hit back to back sixes off Axar Patel, Faf du Plessis perishes at the long-off ropes following a good high catch from Shikhar Dhawan. Chennai have lost their second wicket as MS Dhoni comes into the middle now.
First six of the night
Faf du Plessis hits the first six of the night off Sherfane Rutherford. The ball was pitched in the slot for the right hander and du Plessis hits the ball over the covers for a huge six. 12 runs came from the over from Rutherford as CSK are into their 80s now. 7 more overs to go.
Suresh Raina almost hit the ball straight into the hands of the fielder at leg slip but survives as it goes over his head for a boundary. Amit Mishra cannot believe his luck as he almost picked his first wicket of the night. 8 runs off the over from Mishra.
Raina and du Plessis are leading CSK’s charge as they have put together 50-run stand for the second wicket. The run rate remains a cause of concern for the home side (5.5) but as we have seen in the previous matches, CSK can score runs quickly in the business end of the innings.
Another good over from Mishra
Amit Mishra is keeping things tight on the other end as he concedes just three singles from his second over. His first over had gone for five runs. DC need more of such overs to pile on more pressure on the batsmen.
Chennai cross 50
Chris Morris bowls another boundary-filled over as he concedes 9 off his second. Raina hit the second ball straight down the ground while du Plessis hit one towards fine leg for two boundaries in the over. Chennai have also went past the 50-run mark in the ninth over.
Tidy over from Mishra
Leg spinner Amit Mishra stems the flow of runs a bit as the two CSK batsmen were unable to score a boundary after hitting few on the trot in the last couple of overs. Mishra gives away just 5 singles in the over to keep things tight.
Raina in a hurry
Suresh Raina is aggregating at least boundary in every over at the moment and his strike rates is at 183. He hits his fourth four of the innings off Suchith as CSK score 9 runs of the over. The two have put together 32 runs thus far. Amit Mishra comes into the attack now.
Four and four
Suresh Raina seems in good nick as he now takes the attack to Axat Patel. The southpaw hits back to back boundaries off the spinner as CSK are on their way now. 10 runs in over from the left-arm spinner.
First four of the night
Chris Morris comes to bowl the fifth over and straightaway Faf Du Plessis hits him for a boundary towards fine leg. Then, on the last ball, Suresh Raina cuts the ball past the slip cordon for the second four of the over. Expensive over from Morris as he goes for 10 runs.
Watson departs early
jagadeesha Suchith removes Shane Watson for 0 as DC are off to a bright start in the match. The right-hander hit the ball straight into the hands of Axar Patel, who was fielding in between mid wicket and long-on, just for that shot. Four runs and a wicket from the fourth over of the innings.
Still no boundary
Three overs have been bowled now and Watson and du Plessis haven’t hit a single boundary thus far. Boult’s second over always goes for just one run and CSK are not going anymore at the moment.
Suchith starts well
Another good over for DC early in the game as spinner jagadeesha Suchith too gives a single in his first over. CSK openers are off to a steady start and this is not the first time this season they have done so. They can accelerate anytime and that will be something DC should be on guard about.
Good first over
Trent Boult, who came into the side in place of Kagiso Rabada, bowls a good first over as he gives away just one single off it. The two CSK batsmen were content with just defending him in the first over of the match. Jagdish Suchith will bowl the second over of the innings.
Trent Boult will bowl the first over for Delhi Capitals as he has the new ball in his hand. Shane Watson and Faf Du Plessis are opening the innings for CSK.

Player battle - Shaw vs Harbhajan
This tournament has been a revelation for young Prithvi Shaw who has enjoyed a good run of form along with Shikhar Dhawan at the top of the Delhi Capitals batting order. Harbhajan, on the other hand, is a veteran of the game and he has also enjoyed a great run in this year’s competition. With 9 wickets at Chennai, he has been a top performer for his side and he will certainly pose a major threat to Shaw.
Player battle - Pant vs Tahir
A fight between two extremely enthusiastic characters as both Pant and Tahir are known for their on-field aggression. While Pant has set the stage on fire with his explosive knocks including a 18-ball-fifty, Tahir has impressed with 17 wickets and he will be key to CSK’s game plan against DC’s star performer.
Player battle - Dhawan vs Chahar
Chahar has been the strike bowler for CSK this season but against a in-form veteran like Dhawan, he will have his work cut out. With 15 wickets, Chahar has been a trump card for his team but the Delhi Capitals opener has been enjoying a brilliant run of form and it will be difficult to stop his onslaught.
Player battle - Raina vs Rabada
With 25 wickets from 12 matches, Rabada is currently the highest wicket-taker in this year’s IPL and his performances are one of the main reasons behind Delhi Capitals booking their spot in the playoffs. On the other hand, Raina has enjoyed the best of forms this season and although his record in the tournament is something to behold, it will be a tough task for the left-hander to deal with Rabada.
Player battle - Watson vs Mishra
It has been a topsy turvy campaign for Watson who had a horrible run in the start of the tournament but he has regained a bit of form of late and now has 251 runs from 12 matches. However, on Wednesday, he will be up against Amit Mishra who has dismissed him five times in the IPL.
Dhoni missed training
MS Dhoni didn’t take part in Tuesday’s training session and also missed the practice on Monday. He also said the performance in the game against Mumbai Indians (which CSK lost) on April 26 was not due to the couple of changes forced on the team with Dhoni being ruled out for the second time this season.
Fleming on Dhoni’s fitness
Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming Tuesday said captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni had been “pretty sick” last week and a call on his participation in the game against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday will be taken before the toss.
“Dhoni is progressing and he’s been pretty sick during this week. We will make a call on him tomorrow (Wednesday). He is progressing which is good,” Fleming told reporters on eve of the game against Delhi Capitals.
Rabada vs Spinners
It will be fascinating to see how the league’s top wicket-taker Kagiso Rabada does on CSK’s home turf, traditionally known to offer help to slow bowlers. The spin-heavy CSK led by Imran Tahir and Harbhajan Singh could prove quite a handful for Dhawan & Co. and how they cope with that would determine the game’s outcome, as would the Delhi tweakers performance.
Visitors on a high
Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, would be high on confidence having posted four wins in their last five matches. Young Shreyas Iyer has done a good job of leading the team, which also has 16 points from 12 games, and has scored important runs. He will be keen to put on some valuable runs on board against the formidable CSK and would also expect Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant to find ways to score on a sluggish Chepauk track.
CSK sweat over MSD’s fitness
With 16 points from 12 games, CSK will be hoping that their talismanic captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni recovers from the bout of fever, which forced him to sit out the MI fixture, and be ready to feature in the last home match of the league phase
A blip in form
Mahendra Singh Dhoni-less CSK went down rather tamely to Mumbai Indians in their last game, which saw their net run-rate falling. Now with just two games left in the league stage, CSK will look to roar back with victories to seal a spot in the top two and get the home comfort in Qualifier 1. Without his inspiring presence, CSK’s batting collapsed against MI and they lost the game by 46 runs to surrender their position at the top of the points table to Delhi.
Hello and welcome
A very warm welcome to the live blog of the Indian Premier League match between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals at the Chepauk. Both teams have already qualified for the play-offs and this match will go a long way in determining which team finishes at the top spot on the IPL table.
