MS Dhoni missed the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 encounter between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians on Friday as he was down with fever and in his place, Suresh Raina was named the skipper.

This is the second time Dhoni missed a CSK game this season -- the first being against Sunrisers Hyderabad because of back spasms. The three-time Indian Premier League winners lost that match.

“MS and Jaddu are not well, they have fever and they will miss today’s game. We have three changes: MS, Jaddu and one more player is not playing (Faf). Dhruv Shorey, Murali Vijay and Santner come in,” Raina said at the toss.

Rohit Sharma struck his first half-century of the season before Chennai Super Kings bowlers fought back brilliantly to restrict Mumbai Indians to 155 for four. Rohit top-scored for MI with 67 from 48 balls with the help of six fours and three sixes, but it was Mitchell Santner who starred with the ball for CSK with brilliant figures of 2 for 13.

In reply, Chennai Super Kings were dismissed for just 109 with Lasith Malinga taking four wickets for 37. Krunal Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets each as Mumbai Indians claimed the second spot in the points table.

“It’s a massive boost if he’s (Dhoni) not around. He was sick, uncontrollable. It was a great effort from us. We played some excellent cricket. We are not yet there. We have to be at it. Next three - two against KKR and one against SRH. As a team when we go forward, we are clear what to do. We want more good days than bad days. We have learnt from our losses,” MI skipper Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
