AB de Villiers and Ashwell Prince shared an unbroken sixth-wicket partnership of 83 to revive South Africa from a wobbly position on the second day of the opening test against West Indies on Friday.
The visitors, resuming from 70-3, slumped to 107-5 inside the first hour as Shane Shillingford (3-63) and Sulieman Benn (2-59) each claimed a wicket.
But de Villiers struck 40 not out and left-hander Prince contributed an undefeated 42 to stall the hosts at Queen's Park Oval.
