England's thrilling series win over Babar and Co. spark meme fest as Pakistan slip to No.6 position in WTC standings

Ben Stokes-led England have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead over hosts Pakistan in the three-match Test series. Pakistan have slipped to the No.6 position in the ICC World Test Championship standings.

England pacer Mark Wood demolished Babar Azam and Co. on Day 4 of the 2nd Test match as the Ben Stokes-led side outclassed hosts Pakistan in the series decider by 26 runs on Monday. Speed merchant Wood scalped four wickets to seal England's historic win over the Babar-led Pakistan side at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Stokes-led England have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead over hosts Pakistan in the three-match Test series.

Visitors England had not defeated Pakistan in an away Test series for 22 years. Interestingly, this is the first time that England have won two back-to-back two Tests in an away series against Pakistan. While Pakistan's chances of securing an early berth in the ICC World Test Championship final have taken a massive hit, England have surpassed the Babar-led side on the points table. Taking cognisance of Pakistan's historic series defeat to England, fans and followers of the game have triggered a hilarious meme fest on social media.

Talking about the recently concluded encounter at Multan, pacer Wood bagged match-winning figures of 4-65 as England bowled out Pakistan before lunch on Day 4. Asked to chase down a target of 355 in the 2nd innings, Babar and Co. only managed to score 328 in 102.1 overs. England's Harry Brook, who scored a brilliant century (108) in the 2nd innings, was named the Player of the Match.

After suffering a 26-run defeat at the hands of England in the 2nd Test, Pakistan have slipped to the No.6 position in the ICC World Test Championship standings. With a win percentage of 42.42%, Pakistan are unlikely to compete for the top spots in the Test Championships this season. Babar-led Pakistan will meet England in the third and final Test on Saturday at Karachi's National Stadium.

"We were not up to the mark in the first innings. There were a couple of soft dismissals but were well short of the mark. We fought back with the ball and bat in the second innings but it was not enough. There were a couple of good partnerships but in the end we did not finish well as a batting unit. It was a dream start for Abrar and he used the conditions well. Looking forward to the Karachi Test and we will do our best," Pakistan skipper Babar said after the match.
