From waving the Indian flag among a sea of fans at Eden Gardens in Kolkata ahead of a T20I match against Pakistan to singing the national anthem and making his presence felt on all important sports moments of the country, Amitabh Bachchan has been one of the biggest supporters.

The Bollywood superstar, who turns 75 on Wednesday, has been a strong voice in the Indian sports circles among the fans, providing unbridled support to the sportspersons from across the fields.

Former cricketers such as Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Hardik Pandya and even PV Sindhu wished the Bollywood legend on his birthday.

Sehwag called Amitabh Bachchan the ‘greatest superstar of our country’ in his message.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly said Amitabh Bachchan is an ‘awesome gentleman’.

Badminton star PV Sindhu said Amitabh Bachchan truly signifies that ‘age is just a number’.

Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya shares his birthday with Amitabh Bachchan. Mentioning his time spent with the actor, Pandya said Bachchan was ‘evergreen’.

In the past few years, Amitabh Bachchan has rarely missed an occasion in Indian sports where he has not praised the athletes’ efforts. Let’s have a look:

2. When Amitabh Bachchan reminded everyone how special Sania Nehwal’s bronze medal win in the London Olympics 2012 win was.

3. While following the football World Cup 2014, Amitabh Bachchan travelled all the way to Brazil with his son Abhishek Bachchan.

4. When former England captain Andrew Flintoff was given a stinging reply by Amitabh Bachchan for comparing India’s star batsman Virat Kohli with England’s Joe Root.

5. During the high-intensity Test series between India and Australia, even Amitabh Bachchan got engrossed. On the Australian media’s comparison between Kohli and US President Donald Trump, Bachchan tweeted:

6. Amitabh Bachchan stood in support of Virat Kohli once again when Australia’s cricketer and coach Brag Hodge doubted his injury which he suffered at the start of IPL 2016.

7. When India hammered England in Tests, ODIs as well as T20Is in the 2016-17 series, Amitabh Bachchan described the visitors’ decimation in a peculiar way.

8. But on one occasion, his tweet sparked a controversy in Indian cricket after Amitabh Bachchan made his opinion public on a certain commentator.
