23:46 hrs IST: That’s it. Thank you for joining us!
Joe Root, Man of the Match: “I’ve always felt good this summer, have done the right things and tried not to over-confuse things. Thankfully, it came off well today. It’s a good problem to have, isn’t it? The way we have played is excellent over the last few years and it’s nice to contribute. It’s been fabulous to be a part of this time. Throughout this game, we set it up nicely, David at the end and Morgs, also the start we got. We were ruthless and that’s what you need to be against a team like India.”
Eoin Morgan: “Thought we bounced back really well. We learned from Trent Bridge on a more difficult surface here. It was an all-round bowling performance. [The toss] worked out, we discussed it this morning. It was a matter of trusting advice and my gut. [Joe Root] His play against spin sets up the backbone of our innings. He plays a crucial part.”
Virat Kohli: “I think we started off well with the bat, it was a good wicket to play on. Did slow up in the second half but when we lost wickets early, that’s where we lost it a bit. You need wickets in hand during such chases, so when you lose early wickets, it’s tough to recover. These are games where you test the character of the guys, obviously Bumrah and Bhuvi have done it for long but it’s nice to test the character of the guys. Crucial to back the guys ahead.”

16:36 hrs IST: Another wicket for Kuldeep Yadav as Jason Roy is caught in the deep, ENG 86/2

16:18 hrs IST: Meanwhile, South Africa collapsed dramatically against Sri lanka’s spin to crash to 73 all out in the first Test in Galle on Saturday, their lowest total since readmission to international cricket.
The dismal performance came a day after they were bowled out for just 126, which had been their previous lowest Test innings in Sri Lanka.
Off-spinner Dilruwan Perera took six for 32, and veteran left-arm spinner Rangana Herath claimed three for 32, as the pair bowled in an unbroken partnership for 28 overs, after Sri Lanka set South Africa a target of 352 for victory.

15:56 hrs IST: A quiet phase for England and India will not mind. The openers are being kept in check and the bowlers are performing quite well. ENG 39/0
15:48 hrs IST: A good comeback by Siddarth Kaul as he kept Roy and Bairstow in check. Finally, a good over for the bowlers as England are 23 for no loss.
15:44 hrs IST: There is no stopping Bairstow as England are off to a brilliant start. The opener pounced on a short delivery from Umesh Yadav and pummeled him for a six over fine leg.
15:39 hrs IST: Siddarth Kaul was the given the ball for the second over and Johnny Bairstow slammed him for two exquisite boundaries. The first one was a brilliant cover drive and then, he followed it up with one straight down the ground. ENG 12/0
15:33 hrs IST: Four off the first delivery for Jason Roy but Umesh Yadav was able to restrict him in the next few deliveries as the first over comes to an end. ENG 4/0

15:09 hrs IST: A look at the England XI -- : J Roy, J Bairstow, J Root, E Morgan, J Buttler, B Stokes, M Ali, D Willey, L Plunkett, A Rashid, M Wood.
15:05 hrs IST: England have won the toss and captain Eoin Morgan has decided to bat first.
15:02 hrs IST: Hello and welcome to the 2nd ODI encounter between England and India at the Lord’s.
Perhaps the game was scheduled for Saturday, keeping in mind the FIFA World Cup final on Sunday. But, with only a day’s gap between the two matches, it hasn’t worked out in England’s favour who have their task cut out once again after going down by eight wickets in the series opener.
In conditions resembling those in Manchester, in terms of a dry pitch, the English batsmen failed to comprehend Kuldeep’s wrist spin. Like at Old Trafford, he was also helped by the breeze blowing across the ground and gained drift, bamboozling the batsmen to pick his best figures in ODI cricket.
Unlike in the T20 series, England do not have the option of battling this phenomenon with a practice outing against the spin-bowling machine, Merlyn. With both teams travelling to London on Friday, there might not even be enough time to sit down for some video analysis. In that light, the English batsmen will have to contend mentally with how to play Yadav tomorrow.
It will be easier said than done. Some of it is down to shot selection. At 70-odd for no loss after 10 overs, Jason Roy didn’t need to play the two reverse sweeps in two overs against the wrist spinners, the second resulting in his dismissal. Skipper Eoin Morgan didn’t play the best shot against Yuzvendra Chahal either. Yadav outfoxed both Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root, with the latter in particular looking all at sea.
It has been a poor ten days for Root, and England’s prime batsman for the summer is looking bereft of any confidence. This was the third time in three innings that he was out to wrist spin, falling to googlies in the two T20Is he played. A sharp leg break did the job at Trent Bridge, in what is quickly becoming a problem for Root.
