Rishabh Pant and Shardul Thakur forged a partnership of 100 runs, with both scoring half-centuries. Moeen Ali got the big wicket of Virat Kohli as England dominated the first session. RAHANE IS GONE, WOAKES STRIKES AGAIN

OUT! Woakes strikes twice in two overs. Rahane is trapped LBW for an 8-ball duck.

What a gem of cricketer Woakes is for English cricket. Root, in desperation for a breakthrough, turned to Woakes and his all-rounder did not disappoint. After removing Jadeja, he outfoxed Rahane, whose poor patch continues.  He wanted to review but Kohli told him it was out and they decided against it.

FASCINATING PASSAGE OF PLAY COMING UP

A crucial passage of play coming up for India. Woakes is surely pumped and if England can take two or three more, especially in the first session, they know they would have a shot at bowling India out quickly.

Sep 5, 2021, 16:24:33 IST

NOT OUT…RAHANE SURVIVES

SCRATCH THAT! Rahane survives as ball-tracking shows that the ball was going to miss the stumps. What an over from Woakes. What a change in attack. What a cricketer Woakes is!

SAFE…FOUR

JUST SHORT OF BURNS and the crowd applauds! Robinson gets Kohli to edge the ball but it dies down on its way to the slip cordon. Bounces just in front of Burns.

FOUR! TALK ABOUT A RESPONSE! THAT IS DELICIOUS! Ollie goes full and Kohli, with a full flourish of the bat, produces a gorgeous off-drive and the ball races past mid-off for four. No need to run for shots like these!

Pitch report

"Weather looks fairly good today. Still a bit cold and overcast. So, there will be swing but how much is the question.  The surface has now turned into an absolute belting track for batting. We saw that yesterday too. The grass has more or less died out and the heavy roller will only make it even more flatter." reports Dominic Cork.

Can England strike early?

The opening hour will be as important for England. They know that they take control once again if they can get 2-3 early wickets in the morning. Going by the form of Rahane and Pant, if the English batsmen get Kohli and Jadeja out cheaply, they will sense a strong finish

Sep 5, 2021, 14:50:38 IST

How crucial will be the first hour be?

The first hour of this 4th day is probably as important as an hour can get in Test cricket. Both Kohli and Jadeja know that they need to bat out the first session, especially the first hour, without losing their wickets. Should these two manage to do that while scoring, they will put England under immense pressure

Sep 5, 2021, 14:44:53 IST

Kohli and Jadeja to take guard

Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara's 153-run stand for the second wicket put India in the driver's seat. Soon after they were removed in the same over by Ollie Robinson, Jadeja and Kohli played out the last hour before bad light forced early stumps.

So far, Kohli (22*) and Jadeja (9*) have stitched a 33-run stand. They will be key to India setting a sizeable target today.

Sep 5, 2021, 14:31:01 IST

Pujara batting with “intent”

It's almost as if a different Cheteshwar Pujara turns up for the second innings. For a second consecutive Test, the No.3 batsman was happy to play aggressive shots in the second innings. He scored a well-made 61 off 127 balls, at a S/R of 48.03

Sep 5, 2021, 14:25:22 IST

A Rohit Sharma special

Rohit Sharma, 8 years after making his Test debut, finally got the big monkey of his back. On the third day of the Test, he brought up his maiden overseas Test century. After hitting 7 on home soil, Sharma finally crossed the line on Saturday.

Eventually, he got out while pulling on 127.
