Anderson bowls a maiden
Great bowling from veteran Jimmy Anderson. Rohit edged a couple of deliveries towards the slip cordon but he was lucky enough that the bowl didn't carry to the fielder. No runs conceded, IND: 4/0.
Rahul gets his first run
KL Rahul opens account of runs in this match. He was out for a 4-ball duck in the first innings that had triggered the collapse of Indian batting. He needs to stand strong this time to get back the hold on the game.
Rohit goes off the mark
Rohit Sharma goes off the mark in second innings. He fins the gap through slip cordon and gets 2 runs. IND: 2/0 after 1 over.
2nd innings begins
Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are back on the field with bats in the their hand. They would look to produced to a very good start in order to keep India in a comfortable spot. James Anderson open the bowling attack.

IND vs ENG Day 3 pitch report
There are little marks, the roughs are wide outside off stump. But what is interesting is the lengths India bowled. It was shorter than what Anderson and the English bowlers bowed: Domenic Cork with the pitch report.
Shami still hopeful
"Sometimes when we have a bad day or we get out early in a Test match in the first innings and we have to field for long. It happens sometimes, but there is no need to feel low, because still there are two Tests left,” said Shami.
Is there a realistic chance for India?
Apart from the cliched line 'anything can happen in sports', India can take heart from the nature of the pitch and also the history at Headingley. That heist that Ben Stokes pulled off against Australia a couple of years ago was after England were bowled out for 67 in the first innings. If we go further back then West Indies too found some success at this venue with the bat. The theory goes that Headingley pitch eases out as the Test match progresses and the pitch stays very good till Day 5.
Day 3 goals: India can't let England's tail wag
England are already 345 ahead, it really won't matter to them if their last two wickets fall cheaply but for India, it will matter a lot if they go on to add 40-50 more runs. Mind you, Craig Overton is perfectly capable of holding his own in the middle and we all know how dangerous England's last few wickets can be.
Ishant looked off-colour
Of all India's woes, veteran pacer Ishant Sharma's struggles with the ball were the most prominent one. Ishant bowled the least among the five bowlers that Kohli used and yet conceded the most runs. His gingerly run-up, multiple no balls, wides, short-pitched venom less deliveries outside the off-stump even gave rise to speculations about his fitness but Shami in the post-match virtual press conference cleared that there was nothing wrong with the right-arm seamer.
Let's talk about Root more
Before the pandemic, there were talks that Root perhaps doesn't deserve to be discussed in the same sentence with Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and Steve Smith as the England captain was not registering big scores. He was scoring alright but the hundreds were not coming. Come 2021, Root has answered the critics in some style. He scored more than 500 runs in Sri Lanka, notched up a double ton in England's only win at Chennai in India and in this series, he has scored a hundred in each of the three Tests so far.
Some positives for India
India didn't have that bad a day like the opening one but they needed something really big to stage a comeback in this Test match, which wasn't to be. They got 8 wickets and conceded 302 runs on Day 2 but most of the wickets came in the last session, which means, the damage was already done. Virat Kohli will take heart by the way Shami and Jadeja bowled. The left-arm spinner got amongst the wickets for the first time in this series.
Day 2 recap
If Day 1 was about James Anderson mastery with the ball, Day 2 revolved around Joe Root's class with the bat. The England captain registered his third hundred in as many Tests of this series but what made matters even more complicated for India, was that Root this time, got support from the likes of Rory Burns, Haseeb Hameed and comeback man Dawid Malan. England went to stumps at 423/8, enjoying a healthy lead of 345 runs.
