India vs South Africa Highlights: IND vs SA 2nd Test, Day 3 Updates

IND vs SA 2nd Test, Day 3 Highlights: Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane picked up where they left off on Day 2. They constantly found boundaries and as a result, not only did they take India past 100 but also brought up their 50-run stand. They then took India's lead past 100 in the 9th over of the day. Soon after, Pujara soared to his 32nd Test fifty off just 62 balls to keep India in command. After a few overs, Rahane smashed Olivier for two consecutive boundaries to bring their century stand and also get to his 25th Test 50. Right after the drinks break, the hosts finally got their breakthrough as Rabada dismissed Rahane on 58. Rabada then struck again, trapping Pujara LBW on 53. Ashwin hit 16 off 14 balls before Lungi Ngidi dismissed him at the stroke of lunch to leave India at 188/6 at Lunch with a lead of 161. Shardul Thakur came back out with all guns blazing, smashing 4 more fours and a six before being dismissed by Marco Jansen on 28. Then, Vihari and Mohammed Shami took India's lead past 200. Shami didn't last long as he was dismissed for a duck Jansen. The ninth wicket to fall was Jasprit Bumrah's, holing out to Jansen off Ngidi 7. Vihari (40*) piled further misery on the hosts before Ngidi cleaned up Siraj (0) to bowl the visitors out for 266. SA need 240 runs to win. In response, openers Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar took SA to 34/0 after 7 overs at Tea and batted with positive intent. A few overs into the final session, Thakur dismissed Markram on 31 to give the visitors their first breakthrough. India's joy was short-lived as Elgar and Petersen, like the first innings, stitched a stubborn stand to leave Indian bowlers yearning for their second breakthrough. At last, 46 runs later, Ashwin dismissed Petersen on 28. Eventually, Elgar and Rassie van der Dussen played out the last phase of the day's play, adding 25 runs for the third wicket to remain unbeaten on 46 and 11, respectively. SA ended the day at 118/2 and need 122 more runs to win.

India vs South Africa Live Score: Ngidi speaks to broadcasters

"I was a bit unlucky yesterday, didn't get enough overs to bowl. But it's really simple to bowl on this wicket, you just need to stick to the line outside off and bring the slips into play. It's about the patience game. To keep it consistent, that's the plan today. Try to make the batters play as much as possible and keep it simple, that's my job. We ended up bowling full yesterday, so we need to be patient and be consistent

IND vs SA Live Score: Debate ensues on Pant's catch..

Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has provided a ‘keeper’s perspective' to the catch.

“The way you do, the way you get the head away, it's hard to see the ball and because you have the glove which obviously has a lot of leather that protects you from the hits, what it does is that the impact on the ground is not seen,” Karthik said. READ

India vs South Africa 2nd Test: The ‘Catch’ Controversy

Day 2 also saw a controversial incident taking place right before lunch, when Rishabh Pant's catch sent Rassie van der Dussen back to pavilion. However, a perplexing series of replays triggered debate on-air and on the social media profiles, with many believing that the ball had fallen short of Pant's gloves.

South Africa batter Keegan Petersen insisted that the players have to accept the umpire's decision “no matter what we think.”

"I don't really want to comment on that. That's the umpire's decision. I think we're in the game and we just have to take the decisions, no matter what we think. Some are going to go your way, some aren't."

IND vs SA Live: Huge first hour

The first hour of the play will be crucial today. If the Indian batters survive the opening hour, things could get tricky for the Proteas. The pitch isn't easy to bat on, and with uneven bounce coming into play, who knows if we may even get a repeat of Johannesburg 2018!

India vs South Africa Live: Do or Die for Pujara, Rahane?

Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane haven't been in the best of their form for quite some time now. This innings is, perhaps, one of the most important for the two. Pujara made a strong – and a rather brisk start – to his innings, as he remained unbeaten on 35 off 42 deliveries while Rahane was cautious as he scored 11.

The uneven bounce on the track, which is likely to get worse as the game proceeds, could be a challenge for both.
