India vs Sri Lanka, 2nd Test, Day 1 Highlights: Bumrah, Shami reduce SL to 86/6 after India score 252

FOUR! Full and straight from Shami and Mathews sends it straight back down the pitch with a gorgeus straight drive. The ball races to the boundary. 

GONE! Big shouts of LBW against Dhananjaya but the umpire shakes his head. Both Pant and the bowler Shami tells Rohit that this is worth checking and as it turns out, it is three reds and the decision has to be overturned. Shami gets his second wicket and Dhananjaya has to walk for 10 runs off 24 balls

Sri Lanka are 28/4 in 11.5 overs

FOUR! Dhananjaya de Silva opens the face of the bat and sends this delivery from Shami past the slip cordon for four. That is the first boundary of the innings for Sri Lanka and it has come after 11 overs have gone by. SL 23/3 off 11.2 overs.  

The 10th over, which was bowled by Bumrah, was a maiden and now Ravindra Jadeja has taken the ball in his hands. He had taken five wickets in the first innings of the first Test, how many does he fancy here. SL 20/3 after 10 overs. 

The former Sri Lanka captain drives through covers and collects two runs to get off the mark. Sri Lanka 20/3 after 9 overs. 

Bumrah with a snorter to start off the ninth over that kicks off from good length and crashes onto Mathews's forearm. Mathews has faced 12 balls so far and is yet to get off the mark but Sri Lanka won't mind that one bit. They need these two to stay in the middle as long as possible. 

Sri Lanka may just have to be content with trying to stay alive in every over and forget about runs here as the Chinnaswamy has become a real cauldron. A big shout for LBW came off the second ball of that over against Dhananjaya but the umpire shook his head. Rohit took the review and replays showed that the ball had taken his inside edge. 

He castles the Sri Lankan skipper. The visitors have got off to a nightmarish start here. Length ball around off from Shami, it nips in to breach Karunaratne's defence and smashes onto the stumps. 

Karunaratne is dismissed for 4 off 13, SL are 14/3 in 5.1 overs. 

Length ball outside off to Thirimanne who takes a poke at it. Once again the ball takes the outside edge and goes to Iyer at third slip. Well this pitch was supposed to be turning square but Bumrah has done the early damage here. 

Thirimanne dismissed for 8 off 6 balls. 

Sri Lanka 14/2 off 4.1 overs

Thirimanne hit a couple of fours off Bumrah's fourth and fifth balls after which Karunaratne struck a boundary off the last ball of the fourth over of the innings bowled by Ashwin. 

Mendis has to go after scoring 2 runs off 7 balls. Full delivery outside off that moves away from Mendis who is trapped with absolutely no foot movement. He edges it into the hands of Shreyas Iyer's hands at third slip. 

SL 2/1 in 2.1 overs

Well India have decided to start with spin at one end, and why not. Ravichandran Ashwin has taken the ball in his hands and Karunaratne is the man facing up. 

Mendis took two runs to get off the mark off the fifth ball of the over. The next one, however, was pitched around off at good length and it whistled past Mendis's outside edge. 

Kusal Mendis is facing up against Jasprit Bumrah with captain Dimuth Karunaratne at the other end. The lights are beaming down at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. 

The Indian fielders are out and they seem to be in a jolly mood. Kohli laughing and joking around with his team mates. The Sri Lankan batters are yet to walk. 

Sri Lanka were dismissed for 174 and 178 on a pitch on which India made over 550 runs in the first Test. This one seems to a far more tricky surface and Sri Lanka will be batting under the lights against the pink ball. It will be interesting to see how the visitors deal with this. 

Shreyas decided that this was a pitch where the ball is spinning square and he could not allow the bowlers to get settled. He smashed four sixes and 10 fours and put up 23 runs off 22 balls for the last wicket.

FOUR! Full and straight, Iyer makes room, goes inside out and runs 2. 250 UP FOR INDIA AND IYER INTO THE 90s

Since we only have one wicket remaining, the play can be extended for upto ½ hour

DROPPED! Iyer skips down the pitch and takes aerial route over the bowler's head. Doesn't time it well enough and Kusal Mendis runs to his right from long on. Puts in a desperate dive but fails to hand on. 

SL lose their 3rd review as they appeal against Bumrah for an LBW but the replay showed there was a huge inside edge

IND are 243/9 after 58 overs.

FOUR! A rank long hop from Embuldeniya and Iyer is happy to rock onto the back foot and smash it to the cow corner fence for 4. 

SIX! Straight and full, floated up and Iyer goes big straight over the bowler's head for a maximum. It looked like a miscued shot for a second but he had enough muscle behind it to clear the fence. 

He takes a single off the last ball and he will keep strike.

India are 237/9 after 56 overs.

FOUR! No.10, wearing no.11, hops onto the back foot and opens his account by slapping the ball through deep mid-wicket for 4. Shami is underway!

OUT! Short and straight, Shami plays the same shot again after rocking back. But the ball held onto the pitch a little longer meaning Shami top-edged it straight up. He was caught by de Silva at slips. Praveen Jayawickrama has his second. IND are 229/9 after 54 overs.

IND are 221/8 after 52 overs.
