The Chennai Super Kings let the momentum slip towards Delhi Capitals when Ravindra Jadeja conceded 16 runs in the final over in Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League in Visakhapatnam on Friday. With Shane Watson struggling, Faf du Plessis had to be the batsman who would take on the Delhi bowlers and he did just that. The South African got the Chennai Super Kings off to a flyer by slamming Boult for a boundary in the third over and then backed it up with a four and a six off Axar Patel in the fifth over. Du Plessis put CSK in the driver’s seat when he thrashed Ishant Sharma for three consecutive boundaries in the sixth over. The opener had reached 37 runs off 25 balls, while Watson was struggling to get going at 5 runs from 11 balls. With Du Plessis on song, Watson had enough time to adjust to the bowlers and then up the ante later on in the innings.

Du Plessis and Watson notched 50 runs each as the Chennai Super Kings took down Delhi Capitals by six wickets. The Yellow Army clinched their 100th IPL win to face Mumbai Indians in the final in Hyderabad on Sunday.
The Man of the Match Faf du Plessis said at the presentation that Shane Watson thanked him for scoring at a quick rate in the beginning of CSK’s innings.
“From the previous games, the guys were playing some great shots up front. But it wasn’t the same kind of wicket. We also know the strength of ours is getting those partnerships - even if we go 3-4 overs without runs, we have a great lower and middle order to bring us back. Watto thanked me already (laughs) for scoring quickly at the beginning before he got set. Hopefully we can both get them off the meat in the final right from the word go,” said Watson.
