23:23 hrs IST: That’s it. Thank you for joining us. Until next time, it’s goodbye. Cheers!
Virat Kohli (Man of the Match and Man of the Series): “It was a day where I felt really good. Last game I wasn’t in the right mindset. Just decided to start timing the ball. Beautiful place to bat under lights. They had to try something. I like setting up for the short ball as well. It was a blessing to get so many short balls up front. They kept bowling short. In the day it was really slow. At night time the ball came on beautifully.
“It’s been a roller-coaster tour till now. People who contribute off the field they deserve a lot of credit as well. My wife who keeps me motivated deserves a lot of credit. You want to lead from the front with your performances. It’s a wonderful feeling. I got 8-9 years left in my career. I want to make the most of it. It’s a blessing from God that I’m healthy. I just look at it that way. I just keep my head down so I can give 120% for the team.”
Aiden Markram (South Africa captain): “It was quite a tough series. It’s something we have to look back at it with a lot of thought and try to figure out why we weren’t as good as we could be. They cashed in and that’s where we lacked. It’s how we grow and learn. We will try to take some positives. It’s a nice break away from the format. It’s not a bad thing for us.”
23:04 hrs IST: FOUR! And that’s it. India thrash South Africa by eight wickets to win the six-match series 5-1. One of India’s best victory overseas. Will be remembered for a long time.
22:56 hrs IST: Consecutive sixes from Kohli. This is excellent batting. Wasting no time at all! India are 195/2 after 31 overs, need 10 more.
22:53 hrs IST: India are 180/2 after 30 overs, need 25 more.
22:46 hrs IST: And again, South Africa wasted a good start. With AB de Villiers and Khaya Zondo adding 62 in about 11 overs, it looked like they’ll put up a decent fight. But once de Villiers was out, misjudging the pace to Chahal delivery, the batting caved in. Perhaps it was the fear of spinners that led them to give three of the top five wickets to medium-pacer Shardul Thakur while trying to attack him.
22:42 hrs IST: FOUR! And that’s hundred for Kohli. Up and up! Third hundred of the series. Run-machine India are 165/2 after 27 overs.
22:37 hrs IST: Meanwhile, FC Pune City kept their play-offs hopes alive with a 1-1 draw against debutants Bengaluru FC in the Indian Super League today. Read full report here
22:33 hrs IST: All too easy for India, need 51 more to make it 1-1.
22:29 hrs IST: FOUR! Short delivery from Phehlukwayo, Kohli comes forward and smacks in the gap between deep mid-wicket and wide long-on boundary.
22:23 hrs IST: Tidy over from Phehlukwayo, only three runs off it. But it doesn’t matter. The hosts need wickets. India are 137/2 after 22 overs.
22:18 hrs IST: STAT ATTACK - Virat Kohli is the first batsman to score 500 runs in a bilateral ODI series.
22:14 hrs IST: Consecutive boundaries for Kohli. He continues to get better with each boundary. Probably the nth time he has made batting look so easy.
22:10 hrs IST: FOUR! Overpitched from Phehlukwayo, Kohli leans forward and hits it well in the gap between mid-off and cover. India are 118/2 after 18 overs.
22:06 hrs IST: Andile Phehlukwayo comes into the attack. Can he strike?
21:59 hrs IST: FOUR! And that’s fifty for Kohli. What a player! Amazing consistency. Can’t get any better. Can he score a 100 today? India are 110/2 after 16 overs. Time for drinks.
21:54 hrs IST: Meanwhile, Baroda inflicted a 279-run defeat on Assam in the Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day tournament on Friday, registering the biggest win in a one-day game on Indian soil.
Aditya Waghmode’s 148 powered Baroda to 378 for seven in the most lopsided of the three Group A matches played in and around Bangalore.
The 28-year-old left-handed batsman (128 b, 17x4, 4x6) and Kedar Devdhar (61) left the Assam bowlers reeling after they elected to bowl in the hope of exploiting some early life in the pitch at Alur. In reply, Assam were routed for 99 in 30 overs despite opener Parvez Aziz scoring 50.

21:38 hrs IST: Lot of positives for India. But the middle-order still remains a concern. Get a feeling Rahane should be persisted at No. 4. Dhoni 5, RAINA 6 and Pandya 7 would do it for India at the 2019 World Cup.
21:34 hrs IST: It’s cloudy in Centurion. Maybe one of the reasons why Kohli and Dhawan are gong after Ngidi and co..
21:30 hrs IST: Good start from Morris, but the hosts need quick wickets here. India are 63/1 after 10 overs. Kohli 28*, Dhawan 11*

21:01 hrs IST: OUT! Ngidi strikes, gets Rohit. Apart from the century in the last match, it has been a bad tour for the Mumbai batsman. He should look to finish well in T20s. Kohli comes to the crease.
20:57 hrs IST: FOUR! Short and wide from Morkel, Rohit stands tall and hits it to backward point boundary. Morkel finishes with a dot. India are 16/0 after 3 overs.
20:53 hrs IST: Maiden over from Ngidi. India are 9/0 after 2 overs. Morkel to continue.
20:49 hrs IST: FOUR! Short and wide from Morkel and Rohit cuts it to the deep backward point boundary. India are 9/0 after the first over. Ngidi comes into the attack.

19:38 hrs IST: Should be a bit frustrating for Kohli. Matter of three good balls. Even three yorkers would do. South Africa are 179/7 after 43 overs.
19:35 hrs IST: Good over for South Africa, 10 runs off it. They are 176/7 after 42 overs. Bumrah comes back into the attack.
19:32 hrs IST: FOUR! Half-volley from Pandya and Phehlukwayo hits it in the gap between cover and mid-off for his first boundary.
19:31 hrs IST: Pandya comes back into the attack. Can he get the remaining three wickets?
19:28 hrs IST: Another under-par score from South Africa, again. They need to get their playing XI right. 5-1 means a lot of criticism.

19:18 hrs IST: Meanwhile, England bowler Liam Plunkett will miss the rest of the Twenty20 international tri-series and his side’s one-day series in New Zealand due to a hamstring injury.

19:13 hrs IST: OUT! Zondo departs. Looks to hit inside out (to Chahal) but finds Pandya, who doesn’t miss these. Second wicket for Chahal. South Africa are 151/7 after 37 overs.
19:09 hrs IST: Tight overs keep coming. South Africa are 148/6 after 46 overs. Chahal to bowl his eighth over.

15:11 hrs IST: Hello and welcome to HT’s live coverage of the sixth and final ODI between India and South Africa at Centurion.
India and South Africa had contrasting build-ups to the sixth ODI at Centurion. While India skipped nets, the South Africans trained hard at the SuperSport Park. AB de Villiers, who failed to get a big score in the two matches since his return, had a long stint.
With India having won the series after going 4-1 up with the Port Elizabeth win, Friday’s day-night game would be a fight for pride for South Africa that could still feature the best XI, including the now-fit all-rounder Chris Morris. The dead rubber though gives India a chance to experiment.
“We want to win 5-1 for sure, but yeah, there might a scenario for a few more guys to get a chance in the next match. But the ultimate priority is to win and we’ll do anything we can to win,” Virat Kohli said.
Hashim Amla, believes the ODI series loss to India has exposed key learnings for the squad going forward. This is the Proteas’ last ODI of the summer – the next series is against Sri Lanka in July – and will be the last opportunity for fringe players to make a claim for spots going forward.
