Modi donates Rs 5 lakh to school in SA

IPL Chairman and Commissioner Lalit Modi has donated R100,000 (Rs five lakh) to a high school in SA as part of the IPL’s Help Educate and Teach (HEAT) initiative.
He made the donation to 35 pupils and educators, including headmaster Dan Ngcape of the Ndzondelelo High School during the fifth IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Bangalore Royal Challengers at the St George’s Park stadium in Port Elizabeth on Monday night.
The learners and educators from a local black township were hosted by Modi in the stadium’s Presidential Suite.
Modi said 30 schools from around the country would benefit from this aspect of the HEAT programme.
“The second part of the HEAT programme will benefit individual learners attending DLF IPL matches. Five learners will be identified at every match and their faces flashed on the stadium screens. Each of these will have R15,000 paid into their school fees account in their names,” he said.
Modi said an extension of the HEAT project would see several disadvantaged schools from each of the DLF IPL game host cities receiving 1,000 tickets per game on a first come, first served basis.
The Heat Programme is part of R8-million (about Rs 40 million) that the IPL has set aside for the advancement of education among less privileged children in South Africa.
