Ranji Trophy: Prithvi Shaw suffers shoulder injury, rushed to NCA
Prithvi Shaw, while saving an overthrow, had hurt his left shoulder in the last session on Friday and had underwent an MRI scan in presence of Mumbai’s physio.
Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw’s ill-luck with injuries continued into the new year as his comeback bid was halted when he suffered a labral (cartilage) tear on his left shoulder while fielding on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy match against Karnataka.
Shaw took no further part in the game after the injury. On Saturday afternoon he left for the National Cricket Academy for examination after being summoned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s medical team.
“He has been called to NCA. Mumbai Cricket Association got an email from the BCCI. He has left for Bengaluru. He couldn’t even lift his hand. He has a tear in the shoulder. That much is known,” said Ajinkya Naik, Mumbai team’s manager.
“He was not in a position to bat. How serious is the injury will be known at the NCA,” Naik added.
On Friday Shaw had an MRI scan done in the presence of Mumbai’s physio and is now a doubt for the upcoming India A team’s New Zealand tour. The team is set to leave on January 10.
He didn’t take the field on the second day and has left Mumbai a batsman short.
