'He's very hungry... that hunger drives athletes to move forward': Rohit reserves immense praise for India star
The Mohali Test will be remembered for many reasons. It started as Virat Kohli's landmark game in the longest format and ended with Jadeja's brilliance, which helped India record an innings win inside three days.
All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja dished out a phenomenal all-round performance as he stood out in India's comprehensive Test win against Sri Lanka on Sunday. The Saurashtra cricketer headlined Virat Kohli's 100th Test appearance and Rohit Sharma's first game as a longer format skipper, notching up his Test best score in the second ton of his career.
He scored an unbeaten 175 and claimed a match tally of nine wickets with his left-arm spin to take the Man of the Match trophy. Coming in at number seven, Jadeja put up marathon partnerships with Ravi Ashwin and Mohammed Shami to steer India to 574-8 after they elected to bat first.
Jadeja has also hit three triple centuries including a best of 331 for his state team Saurashtra while batting at number four. He pulverized the Sri Lankan bowling attack on a Mohali wicket which didn't seem to have any demons.
Skipper Rohit also lauded the star all-rounder's show after the resounding win, saying Jadeja seems to be "hungry" for success and he's upping his game every time.
"He's one of the top. Look at the performances: to get 175 not out and then take nine wickets in the game; he's just upping his game every time you see him. In the past when we played in India, his contribution with the bat lower down the order and taking those crucial wickets, he just seems to be adding a lot more to his game every time he plays."
"He's very hungry... as you can see that hunger drives athletes to move forward and I see that in Jadeja clearly. He's quite hungry for success, quite hungry to get runs and do well for the team," said Rohit in the virtual post-match press conference on Sunday.

Ashwin also went past Kapil Dev's tally of 434 Test wickets to become India's second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket.
India have taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series and the second game will be played in Bengaluru, starting March 12, which will be a Day/Night affair. The hosts have also fetched crucial 12 points in the World Test Championship (WTC) with the win.
