Shakib led Bangladesh to a 4-0 series sweep when the country hosted New Zealand in October, after regular captain Mashrafee Bin Mortaza got injured in the first match.

Bangladesh has been led by either Mortaza or Shakib since the tour of West Indies in 2009. Mortaza's knee injury, however, has affected his chances of leading the side in the mega event.

Tamim, who returned to the line-up after suffering a hand injury during the series against Zimbabwe, replaced wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim as vice captain.
