Smriti Mandhana and Heather Knight are no strangers to one another. Both cricketers have been on opposing teams quite a few times in their career with their latest clash coming in June this year when India defeated England in an ODI tri-series at home.

However, the duo are teammates for Western Storm in the Kia Super League and it seems that the senior player Heather Knight is learning some new things from her Indian counterpart.

Heather Knight struck 97 off 62 balls to help Western Storm open their title defence with an eight-wicket win over Yorkshire Diamonds. She stitched together a 80-run stand with Mandhana for the second wicket, with the Indian opener racing away to 48 off 20 balls, which included five sixes.

Their chase of Yorkshire Diamonds’ 162/5 was completed with 27 balls to spare.

After the match, Knight took to Twitter to describe her experience and shared a funny anecdote about her batting partner. She wrote: “A lot of fun batting with @mandhana_smriti yesterday. She taught me how to call in Hindi mid partnership!!”

Knight was also all praise for Mandhana’s batting style and said that thanks to her explosive batting, the England veteran was relegated to a ‘supporting role’ for the Western Storm.

“Smriti Mandhana plays without any nerves and we saw a little bit of what she can do,” said Knight after the match. “She was hitting the ball so cleanly, all I had to do was play a supporting role,” she said.
