Looks like a good deck, doesn’t look it will change much. We’re gonna bowl first. It’s important to start afresh, we have had a good break. There were some close games and we could have ended on the right side of it but that’s how the format is, that’s how the IPL is. It’s an emotional roller-coaster ride. We also have three changes - PrabhSimran Singh makes his debut and Mujeeb is also back. One more change that I can’t quite remember. He (PrabhSimran) is a fine talent from U19s and we hope he can express himself
We would have bowled first as well. As Ash said, looks a good wicket that won’t change much but can’t do much now. He’s (Warner) been outstanding all season but as a batting unit collectively, we need to do well. As Ash said, it’s business time of the season and everyone is looking for points but also need to express themselves. Three changes - Abhishek, Nabi and Sandeep come in.
KXIP win toss
Kings XI Punjab won the toss and opted to field against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Three changes for KXIP as Prabhsimran Singh will be making his debut.
Situation for SRH
Sunrisers Hyderabad have two games away after playing their last home game on Monday. They will battle it out against a confident MI in their own backyard before playing an out of contention RCB at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on May 4.
Battle for playoff spot
Mumbai Indians (MI), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) -- are fighting it out for the last two slots in the playoffs with Delhi Capitals (DC) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) already through with 16 points each from their respective 12 games.
Player Battle: Rahul vs Rashid
KXIP opener Lokesh Rahul has been among the runs and is leading their charge at the top of the innings. Against SRH, he will come up against Rashid Khan, who has troubled the right-hander in the past. Rahul has managed to score just 11 runs off 17 deliveries from the Afghanistan spinner and Rashid has dismissed the Indian batsman twice.
Player Battle: Gayle vs Sandeep
SRH medim-pacer Sandeep Sharma hasn’t be able to replicate his good wicket-taking form of the previous editions but he remains one of their best bowlers. Sandeep will take heart from the fact that he has an impeccable record against KXIP hard-hitting opener Chris Gayle. Sandeep has given just 64 runs off 59 deliveries against Gayle and has dismissed him four times in the IPL.
Player Battle: Pathan vs Ashwin
Middle-order batsman Yusuf Pathan hasn’t set the IPL alight but remains capable of scoring quick runs for his team. R Ashwin will be tasked to keep him quiet and he holds a good record against him as well. Off 40 Ashwin deliveries, Pathan has scored 56 runs and has been dismissed thrice by the spinner.
Player Battle: Williamson vs Mujeeb
Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson will look to return to form after an indifferent campaign thus far. He will come up against skipper Mujeeb ur Rahman, who usually operates during the middle-overs. Williamson has found it difficult to score against the Afghan spinner in the past and has scored 10 runs off 11 deliveries.
Player Battle: Warner vs Shami
Hyderabad opener David Warner failed to slam his sixth successive fifty in the last game but he remains the hosts’ most dangerous batsman in the tournament. KXIP’s Mohammed Shami will be tasked with getting rid of Warner early and he holds a pretty decent record against him. Shami has conceded 39 runs off 26 deliveries and has dismissed Warner once before.
Both the teams have 10 points with Kings XI standing below the SRH owing to lower run rate. And they would be hoping to get two crucial points and move upwards in the points table.
KXIP rely on batting
Just like Sunrisers, even Kings XI Punjab’s batting top heavy which has been reflected in their performance through out the season.
Openers Chris Gayle (444 runs) and KL Rahul (441 runs) have done bulk of the scoring apart from Mayank Agarwal (262), who has come good occasionally.
David Miller (202 in nine games) and Sarfaraz Khan (180 in eight games) got their chances but didn’t perform in most games making it extremely difficult for Ashwin.
Test for SRH
For Hyderabad, KXIP encounter is the last game where they can avail the services of Warner before he leaves home for Australia’s World Cup preparations alongside Steven Smith and Marcus Stoinis.
Since his comeback from ball tampering ban, Warner has scored 611 runs in the tournament so far and is the current ‘Orange Cap’ holder.
With IPL’s second highest scorer Jonny Bairstow (445) already back home, Sunrisers’ will face the problem in the last two games as they will miss their set opening pair.
