Chilly morning in Delhi, minimum temperature at 9ºC, pollution levels ‘moderate’

The India Meteorological Department has forecast a clear sky in Delhi for Tuesday with maximum temperature reaching around 24ºC.

Delhiites woke up to a chilly morning on Tuesday with the minimum temperature settling at 9 degrees Celsius, a notch below the average, a Met department official said.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast a clear sky in Delhi on Tuesday and the maximum temperature is expected to reach around 24 degrees Celsius.

The air pollution level remained moderate in most parts of the city. The average air quality index (AQI) —a measure of pollutants in the air — stood at 133 at 8am. The AQI is calculated on a scale of 0-500. An AQI between 0-50 is considered good, 51-100 satisfactory, 201-300 poor, 301-400 very poor and 401-500 severe.

The temperature on Monday had oscillated between 13 and 25.5 degree Celsius. Strong winds and hovering clouds had caused an increase in the minimum temperature. The wind speed was around 20-25 km/hr, a substantial increase from just 10km/hr on Sunday. Nearby states such as Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab had received rain while popular tourist destinations Shimla and Manali continued to experience more snowfall on the second day on Tuesday.
