Delhi girl found five-months pregnant after reporting kidnap and gang-rape

The girl has told police that one of the accused kidnapped her from outside her house on August 15 after which he took her to a house in Greater Noida’s Surajpur.

A 16-year-old girl was found five months pregnant after she approached the police on Tuesday alleging that she had been gang-raped by four men in a Greater Noida house where she was confined for six days after being kidnapped from outside her east Delhi home, police said on Friday.

Two of the suspects, Shahnawaz and Nadeem, after registering a case of gang-rape and kidnapping at the Harsh Vihar police station in north-east Delhi, said Atul Kumar Thakur, deputy commissioner of police (north-east). The duo works as labourers at a sewage construction site.

Another investigator said Shahnawaz is a tenant in the same neighbourhood where the victim lives with her parents. “He would visit her house on the pretext of handing over keys to his room while leaving for work every day. He had been raping her during those visits, but the girl was afraid of reporting the crime to her parents,” said the investigator.

The girl has told police that Shahnawaz had kidnapped her from outside her house on August 15 after which he took her to a house in Greater Noida’s Surajpur. The house allegedly belongs to Shahnawaz’s colleague and friend, Nadeem. The girl alleged that she was confined in the house for six days during which Shahnawaz, Nadeem and their two other friends took turns to rape her.

“When the girl was medically examined, she was found to be five months pregnant, but unaware of it. During her interaction with counsellors, she revealed about the sexual abuse in the past,” said the investigator.

The girl revealed the identity of the alleged kidnapper Shahnawaz which led to his arrest and that of his associate Nadeem. The police are aware of the identities of the other two suspects and a hunt is on for them.
