Relief for Patparganj: Road to be repaired within a month

at least 15 housing societies are located on both sides of the 200m road stretch. There are a some automobile showrooms too

A section of residents living in housing societies along the Narwana Road at I P Extension in east Delhi, has sought the intervention of deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, who is also their legislator, to get a stretch of the road, dug for laying sewer lines six months ago, repaired.

The residents said the road was dug up by the DJB. The work is yet to be completed and because of that one carriageway of the Narwana road is still out of bound for traffic.

“During the peak hours, there is heavy traffic jam as the road stretch has been shut down for traffic months. After dark there are hardly any street lights. Several persons, including senior citizens, have suffered injuries because of broken roads and footpaths. Such is the traffic chaos that anyone, including school children, could meet with an accident,” said Navneet Nayyar, a resident of Ekta Vihar CGHS.

The DJB, which had undertaken the work, has said that the project was stalled due to some local problems.

According to residents, at least 15 housing societies are located on both sides of the 200m road stretch. There are a few automobile showrooms too. Locals alleged that the work has been going on for the past six months.

“We encounter heavy traffic snarls every day. Sometimes we are stuck for more over 30 minutes just to cross that stretch. The entire stretch is very dusty and there is heavy dust pollution. Our showroom gets coated with a layer to dust if not cleaned regularly,” said Naveen Bhola, proprietor of an automobile showroom located near the Mother Diary plant.
