A c c o rd i n g t o t h e g i rl ’ s father, the male teacher at the government school touched the minor inappropriately and then threatened her of dire consequences, asking her to not narrate the episode to her parents.

“He said that the matter came to his notice after his daughter refused to go to school. When he asked her about the problem, she broke down and told him that she does not like the teacher. He alleged that the teacher used to confine her in a class and molest her,” a senior police officer said.

“An FIR has been registered. The girl’s statement will now be recorded before the magistrate. NGOs were also roped in to provide counselling to the girl,” he added.

Sources told HT that during the NGOs’ visit to the girl’s school, some of her friends told counsellors that it was not the teacher but her father who abused her. Her friends told counsellors that the girl had confided in them and told them about her father being abusive, following which they had approached their teacher.

The teacher, sources said, had then called the girl’s father to discuss the matter. Her father, however, got angry with the teacher and threatened to frame him in a false case.

Fearing that the teacher would approach the police, the father himself went and registered a case of molestation against the teacher, the sources said.

The police, however, refused to comment.

“We are verifying all the claims. Further action will depend on the investigation and the girl’s statement,” a senior police officer said.
