Doctors at said Fortis Hospital in Noida conducted two surgeries on Teotia on Thursday night and another one is scheduled for Saturday.

The police have detained five people, including a woman con stable, for interrogation .“Among the five detained is constable Sunita Hasanpuriya, posted in Baghpat district. She is wife of notorious criminal Rakesh Hasanpuriya who was killed in a police encounter,” said inspector general of police (law and order) Hari Ram Sharma in Lucknow.

The others detained are Gaurav Sirohi of Bulandshahr, Vinay Gujar of Meerut, Shekhar Gupta, and Manoj of Ghaziabad. The G haziabad police have constituted six teams to nab the attackers.

The police are probing the role of criminal gangs in Ghaziabad that use AK -47 and other automatic machine guns. Prominent among them are gangs led by Sundar Bhati and Mukeem Kala.

Vikas, Teotia’s brother, said he received 32 units of blood. He sustained four bullet injuries, one on his right shoulder, one below the arm, and two in the chest. Only one bullet pierced Brijpal, fracturing his shoulder bone.

Unidentified men fired around 60 rounds at the BJP leader and five others, including his private bodyguards, at 8pm on Thursday. They were travelling in a white Mahindra Scorpio, when a white Toyota Fortuner SUV intercepted them. All six men in the SUV sustained bullet injuries.

On Friday, Teotia’s private guard Mohkam Singh lodged an FIR at Mu rad Na gar police station. Unidentified men were booked for rioting, attempt to murder and under sections of the Arms Act.

“At the hospital, two operations were held between 1.30am and 5am on Friday. His shoulder bone has been operated on and the loss of blood contained. Doctors say his condition is better than yesterday,” said Vikas.

He said there was no personal enmity between his brother and anyone.

“We are praying for Brijpal’s speedy recovery,” said Vikas. Union minister and Ghaziabad MP general (retd) VK Singh visited him at the hospital at 7.30am on Friday.

A former Delhi police con stable, Brijpal Teotia contested the 2012 assembly polls from Muradnagar segment on a BJP ticket. He lost by a margin of 4,540 votes.

The Ghaziabad police found the Toyota Fortuner SUV abandoned in the jungles of Niwari on Friday morning.

“The car has a fake number plate. It was robbed from DLF Gurgaon on June 8,” said Rakesh Kumar Pandey, SP (rural).

Further, the forensic team from Meerut was deployed to collect evidence from the Fortuner. The police on late Thursday night also recovered AK-47 and 9mm pistols in Modinagar. Another FIR was lodged at Mod in agar police station under attempt to murder and the Arms Act as two fleeing assailants fired at the police.
