GHAZIABAD: Chain snatchers grabbed a man’s gold chain, pulled him out of the auto and dragged him for around 100 metres before fleeing the spot, at Bhopura intersection in Ghaziabad on Thursday evening.

34-year-old Lokesh Aggarwal was travelling in an auto from Bhopura to Mandawli in Delhi, when the incident happened, police said. He was rushed to GTB hospital for treatment.

“Two bike-borne persons started moving beside the vehicle. They grabbed his gold chain. It did not break and Aggarwal fell out of the auto with the chain around his neck. He was dragged for 100 metres before the chain broke and the two fled towards Delhi,” said Surender Yadav, station house officer (SHO), Sahibabad police station.

Aggarwal, who sustained bruises on his hands and legs, was provided first aid and sent home. He filed a written complaint at the Sahibabad police station on Friday morning.

In another incident on Friday, bike-borne persons allegedly snatched a woman’s purse in Sector 3, Rajendra Nagar at around 12.30 pm.

The woman, who does not wish to be named, was on her way her to pick her son from the bus stop near Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Park, when the incident occurred.

“She immediately informed the police and a PCR van and a patrol bike were sent to the spot. Police tried to follow the suspects who were seen fleeing towards Pasonda village, but were unable to catch them,” said Yadav. The woman later filed a written complaint with the police.

“We have received a written complaint from the woman and have started an investigation. The suspects will be nabbed soon,” Yadav said.
