NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old man was crushed to death by a vehicle on NH-8 in south Delhi’s Rajokri area, near Vasant Kunj, almost nine hours after he went missing from his friend’s home on Thursday morning.

Police said the man’s body was found lying in a pool of blood on the road around 8.45 am by a passerby who called the police. It is believed that the man, identified as one Kale Limbu, a native of Assam, was trying to cross the road when the accident took place.

A senior police officer said that Limbu, who was reportedly mentally unstable, worked in the canteen of a gloves manufacturing factory in Haryana’s Rewari. For the past three-four days, Limbu was staying at his friend, Pavitra Bodo’s room in Rajokri as his colleagues had been complaining that he had been behaving abnormally.

Bodo and his friend Ran Bahadur, both from Assam, had planned to send Limbu back to his home town, said the officer.

In his statement to the police, Bodo said that they had been keeping Limbu locked in the room. But on Wednesday night, he left the room saying he wanted to relive himself and didn’t return. His friends searched for him. When they failed to trace him, they called the police control room around 1 am.

“Our teams were already looking for Limbu when a call about a man’s body being found lying on a road was received in the morning. Limbu’s friends were called to the accident spot where they identified it as that of Limbu.

A case rash and negligent driving was registered at Vasant Kunj South police station. “We have informed Limbu’s family about his death,” said a police officer.
