The police have identified the victim as Raj Kumar while his friends Rakesh, 26, and Ajit, 24, suffered burns and were rushed to the Deen Dayal Upadhayay (DDU) Hospital.

The driver of the minibus saved himself as he jumped off from the bus in the nick of time.

“It seems that the driver didn’t close the fuel inlet properly after re-fuelling,” said a senior Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official. “The minibus was headed to Dwarka from a CNG station located on the Dwarka-Gurgaon route and caught fire as it reached the Sector-9 metro station,” the DFS official said.

“The owner-cum-driver of the minibus — Vipin Kashmiri — got CNG refuelled in his vehicle and happened to see his friends Raj Kumar, Rakesh and Ajit and offered to drop them to the Sector-9 metro station,” said a senior police officer.

“Raj Kumar was in the vehicle’s rear side and got trapped as he couldn’t open the windows and escape. We have registered a case,” the officer added.
