A Delhi court has directed Haryana government to move 100 inmates from Hisar jail to a prison in the Capital following the transfer of their trial in a case related to attack on Dalits allegedly by upper caste Hindus at Mirchpur village in the state in April last year.

Additional sessions judge Kamini Lau asked jail superintendent, Hisar district, to ensure that the accused lodged at the jail were transferred here if they were not facing criminal proceedings in any other cases.

The directive was made in view of the fact that a case relating to the killing of a 70-year-old Dalit man and his physically-challenged daughter by a mob of 102 people was transferred to the special court here designated under the SC/ST (Prevention of atrocities) Act, 1989, by an order of the apex court on December 9.

Meanwhile, Haryana government also informed the court that it had requested the Delhi government to appoint a special public prosecutor to follow the case, which is to come up for hearing on January 14.
