6 Delhi cops accused of torturing man to death

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has accused six cops of abducting a 30-year-old man from Uttam Nagar in Delhi, beating, torturing and murdering him.

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has accused six cops of abducting a 30-year-old man from Uttam Nagar in Delhi, beating, torturing and murdering him.

The crime branch, in its charge sheet filed before chief metropolitan magistrate Satish Kumar Arora, said that the Bindapur Police Station head constable Bhoop Singh, constables Rajesh Yadav, Rajesh Solanki, Uttam, Sudhir and Arvind kidnapped Manoj from Uttam Nagar, and thereafter kept him confined in an old building in south-west Delhi, and beat him. The injuries ultimately led to death.

All accused are presently in judicial custody. The court has fixed the matter for September 5 for further hearing.

According to the prosecution, the cops also destroyed Manoj's belongings in order to hide his identity. When they realized how severe his injuries were, the cops dropped him off at DDU Hospital. But they left him unattended which led to his death.

They have been charge sheeted for the offences of murder, abduction with intent to secretly confine him, destruction of evidence and common intention.
