Delhi Police said they were AAP workers.

AAP, however, said they had nothing to do with the party.

An FIR under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) has been registered at the Mangolpuri police station. On Friday afternoon, the complainant’s statement was recorded before a magistrate.

Two of the suspects have been identified as Ravi Hooda and Aditya.

SBK Singh, special commissioner of police (law and order, north), said as per their information, Hooda is the personal assistant (PA) to Sandeep Kumar, Delhi minister for social welfare and women & child development. Aditya and the other suspect are also party workers, he said.

Sandeep Kumar denied any association. “The person named by the police has nothing to do with my office or my assembly constituency. He is not at all related to me,” he told HT.

The woman in her statement, told them that on Thursday, a self defence conclusion programme for youths was organised in Mangolpuri area where several AAP workers and members were present. During the programme, she was distributing self defence certificates to youths who participated in the event.

“The woman entered into an argument with Jamuna Rajora, vice-president of AAP’s SC/ST wing in Delhi, over the issue of distributing the certificates,” Singh said.

During the altercation, Ravi Hooda and Aditya allegedly misbehaved with her and manhandled her. When she protested, the three used filthy language and threatened her, he said.

The woman alleged that when she brought the matter into the notice of a senior AAP leader, she was asked to sign a compromise letter. When she refused, she was threatened with dire consequences, he added.

“We are trying to trace and arrest the three suspects,” he said.
