Gun-toting paramilitary personnel, who provide perimeter security to Parliament were seen running towards the building when the hooter went off at about 7:00 p.m.

Security officials and watch and ward staff of Parliament had to go through some anxious moments till the 'fault' was traced to one of the rooms at the basement of the building.

Inquiries by the Parliament staff found that the hooter had been triggered accidentally by an official who wanted to turn off an internal fire alarm.

"Instead of informing the watch and ward staff about the false alarm from the basement of the building, an official ventured to turn off the alert and accidentally triggered the hooter," an official said.

As soon as the alarm was triggered, there were inquiries from security officials from Rashtrapati Bhawan and the police who were informed about the 'mistake', the official said.
