"Delhi has witnessed several major tragedies in the last couple of months due to drunken driving. The campaign 'Delhi for Responsible Driving' will be aimed at checking such instances," said Prince Singhal, President, Community Against Drunken Driving (CADD).

The mega sporting extravaganza is scheduled here between October 3-14 and the campaign begins August 1 and will go on till October 2.

Explaining the campaign, he said "The awareness will be done through music, art, fashion and other mediums. We will also be making a team of students to address the issue at major traffic junctions."

According to CADD, annually 2,000 people are killed and about 12,000 accidents are caused on Delhi's roads, out of which, a staggering 65 per cent are due to alcohol consumption.

"We shall also be appealing to the Home Ministry, Delhi Police, Delhi Government, Commonwealth Committee to follow a zero tolerance policy towards drunken drivers," Singhal added.
