The Delhi Metro's Airport Express Line is likely to start operations this week with the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) giving his nod to the mega-project on Monday.
After three months of missed deadlines and failed safety clearances, the first privately owned Metro service on the 23-km stretch between Dwarka Sector 21 and New Delhi Railway Station via Indira Gandhi International Airport, has cleared all hurdles. But your journey to the airport is not going to be as fast as promised. Although the Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Ltd (DAMEPL), Concessionaire Company, promised to offer 120-km/hour speed to commuters, CMRS RK Kardam has restricted it to 105 km/hour on safety grounds. "After inspecting the stretch and services, I have given safety clearance on Monday with a condition to run trains at a maximum speed of 105 km/hour," Kardam said.
"We are yet to receive any formal letter. We will announce the commencement once we receive the letter," said a DAMEPL spokesperson.
