There were 22,700 registered visitors, though the actual number was even bigger as entry was free for children under 12 years as part of the Wildlife Week celebrations, said Riaz Khan, the Zoo’s curator (education).
Average footfall at the Delhi zoo is about 5,000. On Sundays and public holidays, the number goes up to 12,000.
Delhi’s other crowd-pullers, Red Fort, Qutab Minar and Akshardham Temple, attract about 6,000 visitors on any given day. The numbers swell to 10,000 or more on weekends.
