BJP on board, Land bill in house soon?

The government on Thursday managed to bring the principal opposition BJP on board on the land acquisition bill by consenting to a lease provision as proposed by the party.

The government on Thursday managed to bring the principal opposition BJP on board on the land acquisition bill by consenting to a lease provision as proposed by the party.

The development, just ahead of resumption of the budget session of Parliament on Monday, breaks a deadlock that had stalled the bill’s reintroduction in the winter session and will now facilitate its passage.

The government will bring a provision in the bill under which land can be leased with ownership remaining with farmers, who will receive regular income.
