BJP takes to streets over FDI, diesel price
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday staged a protest against the decision of the Congress-led UPA government to increase the prices of cooking gas, diesel and for allowing FDI in retail trade.

Branding these as “anti people decisions”, the party workers demanded the dismissal of Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit.
The protesters, led by BJP pradesh president Vijender Gupta, marched towards the Prime Minister’s residence, while there was reportedly a charged altercation between the workers and the police. More than 7,000 workers were taken into custody.
Vijender Gupta said that the people will have to deal with both, rise in the price of essential commodities and corruption in the union government. “Increasing the price of diesel and cooking gas will have a far reaching effect on the 120 crore people of the country. The time has come for people to dislodge the Congress Government,” he said. Addressing the demonstrators, senior BJP leader, M Venkaiah Naidu said that the three oil companies and gas companies were earning profit of thousand crores, yet the government has hiked the prices and fuelled general price spiral of about 25%.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) and Bharat Udyog Vyapar Mandal have called for a Bharat Trade Bandh on Thursday.
About 5 crore traders and over 10,000 trade associations will participate.
